State Audit Calls City Prison’s Oversight Lax
The state’s inspector general has found widespread mismanagement, fiscal irregularities and dangerous conditions for inmates as well as city residents at Folsom’s city-run prison.
The audit was compiled last year despite Folsom’s efforts in court to thwart it. It was completed earlier this month and comes after the retirement of its director and its takeover by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.
The audit reveals lax supervision of inmates, visitors and volunteers and easy access for inmates to supplies that could be used as weapons. The report also shows the main door cannot be locked.
