Salvadorans Urged to Re-Register for Status
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Immigration officials and local Salvadoran advocacy groups on Thursday urged those living under “temporary protected status” to re-register.
A 12-month extension, until September 2003, of legal status for 260,000 Salvadorans nationwide was approved after two earthquakes hit their country in 2001.
Seventy percent of those eligible live in Los Angeles. Extension forms, accepted only between Sept. 9 and Nov. 12, 2003, can be obtained by calling (800) 375-5283 or visiting an INS office.
