Tight Shoulders? Ease Grip

Share
SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Question: I’ve been lifting weights for many years, but recently I’ve noticed that my shoulders get tight when I lift. Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

Answer: This type of pain could indicate that you’re clenching your fists or straining your neck when you lift the weight. Try leaving your hands slightly open and relaxed, and consciously relax the muscles in your neck and shoulders during each repetition. I’d also suggest you stretch these muscles between sets and after you work out. The stretching goes a long way to help increase flexibility, relieve the tension in muscles and help prevent injuries. If this pain persists, of course, have a doctor check it out.
