An elderly woman with Alzheimer’s Disease was rescued from her burning home Friday evening by her neighbor and a caretaker, authorities said.

Maxine Collins, 82, had only minor injuries after her rescuers saw her standing in her front window banging on the glass as the home was consumed by flames. Her neighbor, Irv Peters, 50, and the caretaker broke the window and dragged Collins to safety, witnesses said. Her cat, however, has yet to be found, officials said.

Moments later, firefighters arrived at the home in the 13000 block of North Myers Street in Burbank. The fire caused nearly $500,000 damage to the home and its contents, officials said.
