Pool Ballot Measure Loss Unchanged by Recount
A ballot measure that would have generated money to maintain a proposed public swimming pool in Fillmore failed by 46 votes, according to a recount completed Thursday by Ventura County elections officials.
About 65.7% of those who voted March 5 were in favor of Measure Q, which would have taxed property owners up to $15 a year. Tax measures in California require a two-thirds approval. Because the margin was so thin, city officials asked for the recount, which cost $500, said Mayor Don Gunderson. No votes were gained or lost in the new count, officials said.
The tax was key to a deal between the city and Fillmore Unified School District to replace the current pool at the high school, which was shut more than a year ago for health and safety reasons.
