No Substitute for Experience

Share

Cabaway is not the best horse running at Los Alamitos tonight, but the veteran gelding is certainly the most experienced.

Now 11, Cabaway is scheduled to make his 103rd career start in the sixth at his usual distance of 870 yards. Owned by Cinda Neth and trained by Paul Price, the Texas-bred is the 9-5 morning line favorite.

Gary Boag will ride Cabaway, who will be seeking his 16th win and trying to rebound from consecutive losses as the favorite. He finished fourth at 6-5 on March 8, and a couple of weeks before that he was second at 9-10. Thus far in 2002, he is 0 for 4.

Another old-timer on the card is Ganster. Trained by Paul Jones, the 9-year-old gelding is the 5-2 second choice in the seventh at 350 yards. A winner of 17 of 72, he is 0 for 11 since the start of 2001.

The picks: 1. Lucks Flying High. 2. Virgule. 3. Tierra Firme. 4. Vising. 5. Seperate Lanes. 6. KG Jim Dandy. 7. Ryans Ridge. 8. Texas Classy. 9. A Big Shot Of Brandy.

Four! Let’s concentrate on the late pick four tonight, which includes races 6-9. In the sixth, we’ll single the returning appaloosa KG Jim Dandy; use Ryans Ridge, Justa Live Weapon, Superoyal Special and Traffic Boss in the seventh; use Texas Classy and Old Easy Money in the eighth and A Big Shot Of Brandy and Tst Mr Linster in the ninth. Total cost: $16.

Shots in the dark: Over A Mile (15-1) is a debuting Arabian from a winning barn (Billy Lewis) in the fourth. Superoyal Special (15-1) in the seventh could be coming up to a good one for trainer Adan Farias.

Post Time: 7:15 p.m.
