Huff Mows Down Fountain Valley

Left-hander David Huff struck out six, walked none and gave up four hits Thursday to lift host Huntington Beach Edison (9-2, 5-0) into sole possession of first place in the Sunset League with a 6-0 baseball victory over Fountain Valley.

Jeff Gilmore hit a two-run home run in the first inning and Robbie Blauer added a two-run home run in the fifth inning for Edison, The Times’ fourth-ranked team.

Fountain Valley (8-4, 4-1) committed four errors in the first three innings. Huff (3-1) dominated Baron left-handed hitters, changing speeds and throwing strike after strike.

“I’ve been working on my mechanics in the last week and I was pretty flawless,” Huff said.

Rialto Eisenhower 3, Redlands East Valley 0--Steve Ortiz (2-1) threw a three-hitter for visiting Eisenhower (9-3, 4-1) in an upset of the No. 14 Wildcats.

Adrian Abraham and Ricky Harris each had two hits for Eisenhower. Carlos Cardenas had two hits for Redlands East Valley.

Placentia El Dorado 9, La Palma Kennedy 8--Brandon Ditolla, who also had a solo home run, drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift El Dorado (9-3, 4-1) to an Empire League victory over Kennedy (5-5, 3-2).

Chatsworth 4, Brighton (Utah) 0--Joe Guntz improved his career record to 29-0 with a complete-game victory for No. 1 Chatsworth over Brighton (Utah) in the first round of pool play in the Las Vegas Bishop Gorman tournament.

Guntz allowed eight hits and struck out seven to improve to 4-0 this season, handing Brighton (4-1) its first loss. Chatsworth (11-0) padded its lead in the top of the seventh on a two-run home run by Jordan Sisson and a solo homer by Jared Halpert.

Lake Forest El Toro 2, Mission Viejo 1--Nick Walsh’s two-run home run in the first inning gave the host Chargers (5-7, 3-2) the South Coast League victory over the No. 23 Diablos (7-4, 3-2). David Pherrin (3-2) pitched a complete game, giving up six hits and striking out five for El Toro.
