Bus Bombing in Pakistan Leaves 2 Dead and 9 Hurt
Two people were killed and nine wounded after a bomb exploded on a bus in southern Pakistan on Friday, police and emergency workers said.
They said the blast occurred at a bus station in the city of Hyderabad, 100 miles northeast of Karachi.
“Eleven people were injured in the blast. Two died on the way to the hospital,” said an official of Edhi Ambulance Service, adding that the bomb had been placed underneath a seat.
All those killed and injured were Pakistani, local police officer Ejaz Bhatti said.
Bomb disposal officer Mohammed Ramzan said the device was locally made from about a pound of explosive and had been fitted with a timing device.
Similar bus bombings have occurred periodically in Pakistan and have been blamed on Indian intelligence agencies or on ethnic or sectarian violence between extremists from the Sunni and Shiite sects of Islam.
Pakistan has also seen a number of attacks against Western and Christian targets in the last year blamed on Islamic militant groups.
Last month, a child was killed and more than a dozen people wounded in a bomb blast near Pakistan’s aeronautical complex near the capital, Islamabad.
