Hootie Has Tradition Unlike Any Other

Share

Stick by your Constitutional rights, Hootie Johnson, and you will get plenty of male support to maintain Augusta as it is. Maybe it’s time to form a National Council of Men’s Organizations to counter Martha Burk and her National Council of Women’s Organizations. What are Burk and her girls doing for the women of Afghanistan, where real needs exist?

Is anyone else out there sick of reading about Ms. Burk’s asinine efforts to gain membership at Augusta National for a few token rich women? If Ms. Burk could enlighten us as to how her efforts will help solve some of the major problems encountered by women in the U.S. and around the world, my wife and I will be the first to picket outside the gates of Augusta.

Augusta National, like any private social group, has every right to restrict its membership to those persons deemed acceptable by the current members and the bylaws. It doesn’t mean that they’re anti-female, it simply means that they’re all-male. I belong to a local organization which is also all-male, but I don’t believe there’s a single misogynist in the group.

Because Martha Burk is chairwoman of the National Council of Women’s Organizations, it would be interesting to know how many men sit on her board of directors.

That man Hootie says, “I seldom have any regrets, I don’t look back much.” Well, I could amputate the majority of fingers on one hand and still represent the African American membership at Augusta. I could then turn around and hack off the remaining fingers on that one hand and represent the female membership at Augusta. All male, all white, and all rich.

Don’t look back much? Why would he? At Augusta, it still looks very much like the past.

As a woman, I’m ashamed of Ms. Burk’s organization, which does not represent most of the women of America. As a golfer, I am proud of the example of excellence each year in Augusta. This lady’s politically correct agenda threatens an institution. Who’s intolerant?

So a traditionally racially restricted rich men’s club refuses to expand its membership to include the opposite sex? Who gives a hoot?
