Diocese Settles Abuse Claims for $13.5 Million
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence, R.I., has announced a $13.5-million settlement that will end three dozen sex-abuse claims against its clergy.
“This is a day long sought that brings to an end the difficult and often contentious process of litigation that has been painful for most concerned,” said the Most Rev. Robert E. Mulvee, the bishop of Providence.
“I hope that this action will be helpful to the victims of abuse and bring them in some way closer to closure and reconciliation with their God, their church, their families and themselves.”
