Woman Gets 35 Years to Life for Mother’s Slaying
A Palmdale woman was sentenced Tuesday to 35 years to life in prison for murdering her mother.
Vanessa Walker, 44, was convicted in the 2001 beating death of 67-year-old Nada Lazarevic of Lancaster, whose body was found dumped off a remote road in Kern County.
Both Walker and her husband, Ken Walker, 40, were found guilty of second-degree murder. He was sentenced last month to 15 years to life in prison. Superior Court Judge Terry A. Green imposed a heavier punishment on Vanessa Walker because she had been convicted of voluntary manslaughter in the 1989 shooting death of her first husband.
Prosecutors said the Walkers killed Lazarevic after she grew angry that they amassed nearly $50,000 of debt in her name.
