* General Motors Corp. will erase almost all of its $19.3-billion U.S. pension deficit, the largest among U.S. companies, by year’s end and said closing the gap would add 70 cents to earnings per share in 2004.

* Federated Department Stores Inc., owner of Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s, said President and Chief Executive Terry Lundgren would add the title of chairman after the retirement next month of James Zimmerman.

* Shares of Roxio Inc., owner of the Napster music-sharing service, rose as much as 15% in extended trading after it said media software revenue was exceeding its expectations. The shares had closed at $4.49 on Nasdaq.
