Auditor’s Office Again Asleep at the Switch
Re “Is O.C. Paying Twice for One Service?” Nov. 19:
After reading this article, one has to wonder why the auditor-controller is just now raising the issue of two agencies being paid to administer health benefits for sheriff’s deputies, when these fees have been assessed “for years.”
According to Government Code sections 26881-26882, it’s the county auditor’s job to maintain accounts and related statistics. So what happened?
Oh, I get it, this is like the Planning Department debacle, where the auditor’s office sat there and watched the revenue drop and the costs increase for three years without a peep.
Now that was a real windfall for the taxpayers!
