Navy Waste Spill Cleaned Up in Bay
From Times Wire Reports
A pipeline on a Navy base leaked as much as 2,000 gallons of oily waste water into San Diego Bay, officials said.
The leak in the system that carries bilge waste from ships onto a base treatment center was reported to the state Office of Emergency Services about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The Navy’s Oil Response Team used large absorbent pads to soak up the oil and a private company assisted with a vacuum truck. The spill was contained and no wildlife appeared to have been affected by the leak, officials said.
