97 Deputies Call In Sick at Downtown Jails
From Times Staff Reports
Continuing a week of “blue flu,” 97 sheriff’s deputies frustrated with the lack of a new contract called in sick Friday at downtown Los Angeles County jail facilities.
For a second day, the sickout targeted Twin Towers jail, the Men’s Central Jail and the Inmate Reception Center, which house a total of 11,500 inmates.
The union representing the deputies in talks with the county has been at an impasse since a pay contract expired in January. The contract on benefits and retirement expires Tuesday.
