Keep Speeding Bicycles Off the Sidewalks

Share

When corner curbs were ground down to facilitate wheelchair access to the handicapped, an unexpected consequence resulted: Bike riders took advantage of this fact and started to use their bicycles on the sidewalks originally reserved for pedestrians. With our insufficient police force and increase in crime, there has not been any kind of enforcement, and thus pedestrians are constantly faced with bike riders who travel too fast and could seriously injure those of us on foot.

While there does not seem to be an easy solution, the least that should be done is to impose serious fines, from $50 to $100, to let these riders think about this twice. Bikes belong in the street and on bike paths, not on the sidewalk.
