2 Charged With Providing Prostitutes at Migrant Camps
Two Mexican nationals were arraigned in San Diego on Monday on federal charges of harboring two illegal immigrants to act as prostitutes for other illegal immigrants living in the rural areas of the county.
Guillermo Romero-Flores and Guadalupe Ventura are charged with taking two women on day trips to various encampments where they had sex with several dozen men.
“The reprehensible nature of this crime, which involved smuggling vulnerable women into this country to engage in prostitution, called out for law enforcement action,” said U.S. Atty. Carol Lam.
Asst. U.S. Atty. Christopher Tenorio, the lead prosecutor, said more indictments are possible as authorities investigate prostitution in migrant camps.
Romero-Flores and Ventura, both of whom are illegal immigrants, are scheduled for a hearing in federal court Sept. 7, officials said.
