From Times Staff and Wire Reports

George F.F. Lombard, 93, a former key administrator at Harvard Business School who helped form the field of organizational behavior, died Thursday of natural causes at his home in Weston, Mass.

After earning an economics degree from Harvard College, Lombard began researching organizational behavior for his doctoral thesis in commercial science. His research was based on watching his mother roam through racks of girls’ dresses and observing 20 clerks ring up sales at Macy’s.

Lombard joined the Harvard faculty as an assistant dean in the business school, and he helped establish the academic discipline of studying and directing organizational behavior.
