Mubarak Names Acting President in His Absence

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, who traveled to Germany for surgery to repair a slipped disk, has appointed the prime minister acting president during his absence, Egypt’s official Middle East News Agency reported.
Prime Minister Atef Abeid will carry out presidential duties for Mubarak, who never appointed a vice president as required by Egypt’s Constitution.
No date has been given for when Mubarak is expected to return home after today’s surgery.
