Wife, Lover Arrested in Encino Stabbing

A man who police believed was stabbed by a stranger as he visited his wife, a housesitter for a rock musician in Encino, actually was attacked by her lover, Los Angeles police said Tuesday.

Alba Canton, 34, and Eduardo Antonio Garcia, 39, were in the Encino home of singer-songwriter John Ondrasik on July 28 when her husband showed up unexpectedly to take her to dinner, police said.

Garcia hid in a bedroom closet as Canton gave her 44-year-old husband a tour of the home, investigators said.

Garcia then jumped out and stabbed Carlos Canton more than a dozen times in the torso, police said.

Canton was hospitalized in critical condition, police said, but has recovered from his wounds.

Police said they later learned that Alba Canton waited two hours before calling police about the attack.

At the time, they speculated that the intruder, who might have been wearing a security guard uniform, had entered the house in the 5300 block of Encino Avenue through a dog door.

There were no signs of a break-in, and the security system had been disabled by a construction crew that was installing windows and doors.

Police also noticed discrepancies in Alba Canton’s story, and on Monday officers arrested her and Garcia, a security guard who lives in Encino.

Garcia was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and was held on $500,000 bail.

Alba Canton faces charges of accessory to attempted murder and was being held on $250,000 bond.

Ondrasik, who was performing out of town on the night of the attack, is the founder of the one-man band Five for Fighting. The band is best known for the 2000 hit song “Superman (It’s Not Easy).”
