From Times Staff Reports
An inmate serving time for auto theft and other crimes escaped from jail Thursday morning when he fled from a work-program bus, officials said.
Jose Salcido Rodriguez, 34, an inmate at the James A. Musick Branch Jail, ran off about 8 a.m. when he was dropped off with other low-security inmates to work at the Orange County Jail’s Intake Release Center in Santa Ana, police said.
Helicopter crews and more than a dozen Orange County sheriff’s deputies searched for several hours, but he was not found.
