Bystander Is Killed by Gunfire
A woman waiting for a bus in South-Central Los Angeles was slain Tuesday afternoon when a street-corner argument between two men erupted into gunfire, police said.
Officers said the woman, believed to be in her 60s, was standing at 94th Street and Western Avenue when the men began to argue. Detectives said that as one of the men began to run away, the other pulled a handgun and fired several shots, at least one of which struck the woman.
The apparent target, who was not hit, fled down the street, officers said. The woman, whose identity was withheld pending notification of relatives, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The gunman was being sought, police said.
