* Sports clothing and footwear maker K2 Inc. said second-quarter profit fell 76%, weighed down by its Volkl, Marker and Marmot product lines. The company, based in Carlsbad in San Diego County, reported net income of $1.5 million, or 3 cents a share, down from $6.2 million, or 16 cents, a year earlier. Net sales rose 20% to $301.4 million.

* 21st Century Insurance Group reported net income of $20.5 million, or 24 cents a share, in the second quarter, down 4.2% from $21.4 million a year earlier. The Woodland Hills company said direct premiums written increased 1.2% to $328.7 million, compared with $324.8 million a year earlier.
