Cellphone Service Restored in Tunnels
Cellphone service was restored in the Lincoln and Holland tunnels, which pass under the Hudson River to connect New Jersey and Manhattan, after being shut down because of security concerns as a result of the deadly bombings in London.
“Following ongoing consultation with security officials in New York and New Jersey, who have reviewed the circumstances specific to the Lincoln and Holland tunnels, and based on current security information, the Port Authority determined it would restore cellphone service,” Kenneth J. Ringler, executive director of the Port Authority for New York and New Jersey, said in a statement.
Cellphone service had also been shut down in the Midtown and Battery tunnels, but was restored four days after the London bombings.
