Wolfowitz Presses for More Aid to Africa
Rich nations, including the United States, should send much more aid to Africa, World Bank President Paul D. Wolfowitz said, adding that he would try to persuade Washington to boost its assistance to the continent.
Wolfowitz, the former U.S. deputy Defense secretary, began a visit to Africa after the world’s wealthiest industrialized countries struck a deal to wipe out more than $40 billion of the debt that 18 countries, most of them in Africa, owe the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and African Development Bank.
Speaking in Kigali, Rwanda, Wolfowitz said he would like to see countries do more to alleviate poverty in Africa.
