Nursery Owner Indicted on Charges of Fraud
A federal grand jury indicted the owner of a nursery business Thursday on charges of fraud related to the awarding of a city trash contract.
George Garrido, 53, owner of GWS Nursery & Supplies, allegedly worked with then-Treasurer Albert Robles to get a trash collection company to hire him as a consultant.
Garrido was to get $350,000 a year for the life of the contract, said Assistant U.S. Atty. David Vaughn. The owner of the trash firm, Michael Klistoff, paid Garrido five checks totaling $437,500 and made campaign contributions to Robles, Vaughn said.
