Kremer’s Hiring by NBC to Be Announced Today

NBC will announce today that it has hired Andrea Kremer as the sideline reporter for its Sunday night NFL football coverage.

Kremer, who has been with ESPN since 1989, also will do feature stories for NBC’s “Football Night in America” studio show. She will make her NBC debut this weekend, reporting on the NFL draft during the network’s coverage of the NHL playoffs.

Kremer actually was hired by NBC in January -- her hiring was first reported by The Times on Feb. 3 -- but NBC held off making the announcement until Kremer’s contract with ESPN expired.

“One thing that impressed me about NBC is everyone is so excited about once again televising NFL football,” Kremer said.

“And when you get the opportunity to work with this caliber of people, starting with [NBC Sports Chairman] Dick Ebersol, [announcers] Al Michaels and John Madden and [producer] Fred Gaudelli, how can you turn that down?”

Said Madden: “I’ve known Andrea for quite a while now and I’ve always respected her work. She’s a real bulldog.”

Kremer is a 1980 graduate of Pennsylvania. She and her husband, John Steinberg, who teaches archeology at UCLA, have lived in Los Angeles since 1994. They have a 6-year-old son, Will.

NBC signed a six-year, $3.6-billion deal with the NFL a year ago to begin televising games this season. NBC last televised NFL games in 1997.
