No Major Damage in Burnett’s Elbow
Toronto Blue Jay pitcher A.J. Burnett has no structural damage in his right elbow, but there is no timetable for his return to the rotation.
Burnett was examined by Dr. James Andrews on Monday in Birmingham, Ala., who said the right-hander has a mild ligament sprain and a straining of scar tissue.
Andrews performed ligament-replacement surgery on Burnett’s elbow in 2003.
“Everybody feels he’ll be pain-free eventually. It’s just something that needs a little rest,” General Manager J.P. Ricciardi said.
Burnett was put on the 15-day disabled list Saturday. He left his start against Boston on Friday after four innings because of soreness in his elbow.

New York Met broadcaster Keith Hernandez was reprimanded by the team’s television network, SportsNet New York, for “inappropriate” remarks during a broadcast about a female member of San Diego’s training staff.
The former first baseman said women “don’t belong in the dugout” when he spotted Kelly Calabrese, the Padres’ massage therapist, in the dugout during a game at San Diego on Saturday.
Hernandez, a former Met star, then laughed and said, “You know I am only teasing. I love you gals out there -- always have.”
