Dan Rather roots for Couric

Former CBS News anchor Dan Rather says he’ll be pulling for Katie Couric when she takes over the job this fall and says that what it takes to succeed is leadership and a passion for news.

“The role is basically a leadership role, and the organization begins to take on the personality and the character of the anchor,” Rather said Monday at the National Assn. of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas.

“If Katie Couric comes to CBS News and demonstrates she’s a leader and loves the news, she’ll be fine,” Rather said.
