Trojan Students on Edge of Seats

Regarding “Student Body Left (Out)?” Sept. 12: Three years ago, as a USC faculty football season-ticket holder of 25 years, I with others was pushed 25 yards goal-ward to make room for new financial donors. I joked then to Gary Klein, “Soon they’ll be sticking the band in the end zone and eliminating the student section.”

Garrett Inc. must have thought that was a good suggestion. After all, USC football is not about students, faculty, staff and regular alumni. It’s about money. It’s a business.

I figure that eventually the old “Trojan Family,” as we were sentimentally called when our support was needed in the losing years, will be out in the parking lot with a big-screen TV. Fight on, Mike, on and on and on.

I am noting how USC, with a week off, dropped in some polls, and the comment that the Pac-10 might not have the strength of schedule to allow the Trojans to return to the championship game.

Amazing how a conference with five teams rated in the top 30 is considered to be weak. But, once again, this shows the need for a champion to be crowned on the field and not by some sportswriters or coaches with biases and the inability to watch and truly, and critically, evaluate the games that all teams play.
