Florida won’t deliver a disaster
Re “Democrats scramble to prevent a Florida fiasco,” May 20
I take issue with the article’s insinuation that it would be an unmitigated disaster if Florida’s Democratic delegates were to go to -- gasp! -- the likes of former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel or Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich. The last time I checked, none of the current front-runners for the Democratic presidential nomination was yet the official candidate.
There are good reasons to question the wisdom of a January Florida primary. That it would deliver delegates to the “wrong” candidate is not one of them. Maybe during these intervening months it would be healthier for the party, the electorate and ultimately the country to consider what each of the current candidates stands for and what specific policies each supports before rushing to judge who “should” receive the nomination.
