Movie screening

Re “Cartoonish films need a bigger scope,” Column, July 21

In the 1950s, my parents were fortunate, relying on the Catholic Legion of Decency to screen movies, identifying objectionable contents, and to excuse them from watching with their children fantasies like “Francis the Talking Mule” and “Them!” Today’s children aren’t safe in theaters, forcing parents to escort them and watch inane animated and action movies. In these painful cases, adult admission should be half-price, if not free, but definitely not the going rate of eight or more bucks.
