Son of the Ghost

After selling 1 million of his Louis Ghost armchairs, designer Philippe Starck has delivered the offspring: the Lou Lou Ghost chair, Italian manufacturer Kartell’s first children’s chair since 1974. The miniature version of Starck’s 2002 design is styled in solid white, red and black, or in eight translucent shades. “I was looking at my stomach in the mirror one day,” Starck says, “and I suddenly had a flash -- that small is beautiful.” The chair, he adds with a smile, “is designed for ages 1 to, in Los Angeles, 25.” The Lou Lou Ghost is stackable, weatherproof and made from shatter-resistant and recyclable polycarbonate. It arrives just in time to be an alternative to folding chairs at the kids’ holiday table. The chair is regularly $133; the crystal, blue, rose, purple and citrus yellow models in stock at Kartell are reduced by 25%, to $99.75, as part of a holiday sale at the Diva Group, which includes Alessi, B & B Italia and Cassina. 313 N.
