Oh, Jen. ‘Ghosts.’ Really?

Can we talk about: How Jennifer Garner came to star in “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past”?

I can’t figure it out. First, it stars Matthew McConaughey. Second, she plays a woman waiting around for a womanizer (that’s McConaughey) to change his ways. Note to Hollywood: This is not what women want to see. Surely, Garner got better offers after “Juno.” What gives, Jen? (Friday)

Even with Mike White and his pop gone, we’re still talking about: “The Amazing Race.” Friends Lakisha and Jennifer are still feuding with mother-son team Margie and Luke. Did the girls really insult Luke last week? Even the normally passive Phil didn’t think so. The grudge-holding is bound to affect both pairs’ performance during tonight’s 400-meter swim in Beijing, and that suits me just fine. Tammy and Victor all the way. (Today)

It’s time, once again, to talk about: Robert Pattinson. The next “Twilight” film doesn’t come out until November, but admirers of the swooning, stone-cold vampire can check him out in his pre-Edward days in the British independent film “How to Be,” where he plays a sensitive-if-slow singer-songwriter trying to find himself. It’s available this week on IFC’s On Demand offering. Shameless, IFC, just shameless. (Wednesday)

Why not talk about: “Star Trek: The Original Series -- Season 1.” Non-Trekkies -- excuse me, Trekkers -- probably won’t need to study up for next week’s heavily hyped “Star Trek” reboot, directed by J.J. Abrams. But should hard-core fans feel like kicking off the countdown early, the first season of the original series is out this week on Blu-ray. See the makeup on the Klingons, Romulans and genetic supermen like never before. (Tuesday)

There’s never a bad time to talk about: Wilco. Wilco won’t release a new album until June, but get an overview of the band’s genre-hopping career in the concert DVD-travelogue “Ashes of American Flags.” Their 2008 tour featured the country-rock revivalists-turned-pop-experimentalists’ most potent lineup to date.
