EMG Technology sues Google over its Chrome mobile Web browser

Google has been sued by EMG Technology, a Santa Monica company hoping to stop the Internet search company from distributing its Chrome mobile Web browser in the U.S.

EMG Technology says Google is infringing on one of its patents and is seeking money damages along with a preliminary injunction and ultimately a permanent one.

The company says Google infringes the patent “by using EMG’s patented simplified navigation system on smart phones and tablets.”

Chrome can be downloaded from the Google Play store for Android devices and from Apple’s App Store for iOS devices. In Jelly Bean, the latest version of Android, Google has made Chrome its default browser.

The lawsuit was filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas in the Tyler Division.

Google said it had not yet received a copy of the complaint and that it wouldn’t be able to comment until it reviewed it.

The EMG Technology adds to Google’s legal issues this week. A report Monday said Google is close to a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission that will require it to pay $22.5 million -- the harshest penalty ever imposed by the FTC.
