HTC unveils One Max smartphone with a whopping 5.9-inch screen

Smartphone users who like the fingerprint scanning feature on the iPhone 5s but want a bigger screen might want to check out the newly unveiled HTC One Max.

The device, introduced Monday, features a humongous 5.9-inch screen. The phone comes in a silver-colored aluminum shell and looks just like the 4.7-inch-display HTC One, which launched in early 2013. The only other difference between the models is below the One Max’s rear-facing camera, where HTC has put in a fingerprint scanner.

Much like the Touch ID fingerprint sensor on the iPhone 5s, the scanner on the HTC One Max can be used to quickly unlock the device.

Unlike on the iPhone, though, the One Max’s fingerprint scanner also can be used to quickly launch up to three different apps. HTC said users can assign an individual finger for each app.

Besides the 5.9-inch, 1080p HD screen and the fingerprint scanner, the HTC One Max uses a quad-core 1.7-gigahertz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor and comes with 16 or 32 gigabytes of storage plus 50 gigabytes of cloud storage through Google Drive.

The Taiwanese phone maker did not say when the HTC One Max will launch in the U.S., but said it will begin rolling out across the globe this week.
