Joss Whedon ‘endorses’ Mitt Romney to bring on zombie apocalypse

You might not wholly agree with Joss Whedon’s “endorsement” of Mitt Romney, but you have to give the guy props for cracking a few good zombie jokes.

Whedon, the writer behind “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Dollhouse” and the upcoming “The Avengers 2,” jams tongue firmly in cheek for the bit, which came out over the weekend.

“Like a lot of liberal Americans,” he opens, “I was excited when Barack Obama took office four years ago. But it’s a very different world now, and Mitt Romney is a very different candidate, one with the vision and determination to cut through business-as-usual politics and finally put this country back on the path to the zombie apocalypse.”

Whedon, who has donated to the Obama campaign, envisions an America in which “the 1 percent will no longer be the very rich, it’ll be the very fast,” as money is just so much paper to the undead.

The threat of a zombie apocalypse, of course, has been brewing since the feds warned of it early last year. And well before that, if you’re a fan of, say, Bruce Campbell. Bath salts have done nothing to slow the trend.

One interesting bit: Whedon’s “Buffy” had previously been praised in libertarian magazine Reason as a kick-butt show for a post-Sept. 11 world, for enacting a “consensus moral understanding of contemporary American culture”: In writer Victoria Postrel’s words, that is that evil exists, redemption is possible, evil must be fought, evil never goes away, we don’t get to choose our reality, but we do get to choose what we do in that reality.

Whedon, for one, chooses to hoard canned goods.
