Video debut: Justin Vernon’s Silver Lake Chorus single

Word of a full-length album from the indie music-loving Silver Lake Chorus has been eloquently buzzing ‘round these parts for two years now. The choral group is getting closer. A two-song EP will be self-released on Sept. 18, and now the 25-strong member group has its very own video for the Justin Vernon-penned “From the Snow Tipped Hills.”

Fans of Vernon, who is best known for his work as Bon Iver, probably won’t be surprised to hear that his words and arrangements translate comfortably to that of a choral group. Vernon isn’t heard here, but the soft-voiced avant-folk artist penned “From the Snow Tipped Hills” specifically for the group.

The EP, dubbed “Wreckage,” will also feature a song of the same name written by the New Pornographers’ AC Newman. A full-length is planned for 2013, but release dates and tracklists are not yet confirmed.

Others who contributed tracks include Beck, Aimee Mann, Tegan & Sarah, the Bird and the Bee, Zooey Deschanel, Jon Brion and Sia. The album is being produced by Australian singer/songwriter Ben Lee.

“Each artist submitted their song to us in demo format, then our genius arranger -- Heather Ogilvy, who is also a soprano in the chorus -- creates killer choral arrangements of these sick, never-before-heard indie tracks,” founder, alto and creative director Sam Rader previously told the Times. Also arranging the songs is Michael Wells.

Since its inception about two years ago, the Silver Lake Chorus has landed gigs singing the theme song for the action-comedy film “MacGruber” and has contributed backup vocals to the Lonely Island’s Akon-featuring “I Just Had Sex.” The act has also performed at local street festivals and indie-focused clubs, including the Bootleg Bar and the Satellite.
