'Let's Make a Deal' host Monty Hall to receive honorary Emmy

Monty Hall, the original host of the iconic game show “Let’s Make a Deal,” will be honored at the 40th annual Daytime Emmy Awards with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.

Bob Stewart, the creator of “To Tell the Truth,” “Password” and “The $10,000 Pyramid,” will also receive the honor.

“We are honoring giants in game show history,” Malachy Wienges, chairman of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, said in a statement. “So many of us grew up watching Monty Hall excite us with what was behind Door No. 1, No. 2 or No. 3, and found ourselves addicted to the challenge and imagination of Bob Stewart’s classic ‘To Tell the Truth,’ ‘Password,’ ‘Pyramid,’ and others.”

Hall’s “Let’s Make a Deal” premiered on NBC in 1963, moved to ABC in 1968, and had network and syndication runs in the 1970s, ‘80s, ‘90s and 2003. The current version of the game shows airs weekdays on CBS and is hosted by Wayne Brady. Hall, who was also co-creator and executive producer, hosted in each decade, including a week of appearances in 2010 at age 88.

Stewart passed away in May 2013, just a few months shy of his 92nd birthday. His son, Sande, will accept his award.

During his career, Stewart was honored with nine Emmy awards as executive producer of his shows, and was inducted in the Television Academy Hall of Fame.
