At least 10 protesters arrested at Fullerton rally for Kelly Thomas
At least 10 protesters were arrested in Fullerton on Saturday at a rally demanding justice for Kelly Thomas, with the bulk of the arrests made after a female protester allegedly attacked a reporter and the crowd was ordered to disperse.
A videographer who was filming the demonstration for CBS-2 was allegedly struck in the face by a female protester, according to the news station. The reporter sought shelter in the news van as several people surrounded the vehicle.
The news crew called 911. The videographer sustained minor facial injuries but was not hospitalized, said Sgt. Jeff Stuart.
The woman who struck the videographer was arrested on suspicion of assault and two other protesters were arrested earlier in the day for vandalism, Stuart said. After the reporter was attacked and the dispersal order was issued, seven more people were arrested for refusing to leave, he said.
“We have bent over backward today to allow them to protest, hoping to keep it peaceful,” Stuart said.
About 150 people gathered Saturday morning in front of the Fullerton Police Department to demand justice for Thomas. Last week, a jury found former Fullerton police officers Manuel Ramos and Jay Cicinelli not guilty in Thomas’ death.
