LAPD investigates suspicious package near downtown courthouse

Los Angeles police have closed off the area around the Stanley Mosk Courthouse in downtown L.A. because of a suspicous package.
About 6:30 a.m. police received a call reporting a suspicious bag at a bus stop near 1st and Hill streets next to the courthouse, said Officer Norma Eisenman.
Police have blocked off streets leading to the area and the LAPD bomb squad was en route to investigate, she said. Police were redirecting traffic around the scene.
[Updated at 8:28 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22: Authorities cleared the scene at 8:15 a.m. and declared the area safe.]
