Earthquake: 3.3 quake strikes near Ferndale

A shallow magnitude 3.3 earthquake was reported Wednesday evening five miles from Ferndale, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 8:23 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 11.8 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was nine miles from Fortuna, Calif., 21 miles from Eureka, 26 miles from Bayside and 198 miles from Sacramento.

In the past ten days, there have been two earthquakes magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
