Anaheim math teacher accused of possessing child porn

A 38-year-old Anaheim schoolteacher who lives in Long Beach was charged Tuesday with possession of child pornography.

Aaron Paul Widera, who taught math, pleaded not guilty to one felony count of obscene matter depicting a person under 18, two counts of possession of matter depicting a minor engaging in sexual conduct and one count of sending or bringing obscene matter into the state for sale.

Patricia Karlak, a spokeswoman for the Anaheim Union High School District, said Widera taught at South Junior High School in Anaheim. In an email to The Times, she said he was placed on administrative leave pending the police investigation.

Deputy Orange County Dist. Atty. Janis Johnson said Long Beach detectives allegedly discovered more than three dozen child porn photographs posted on Widera’s Tumblr account.

Long Beach police executed search warrants at Widera’s Long Beach home, where they allegedly found thousands of child porn photos. If convicted, Widera faces up to six years in state prison, according to prosecutors.
