Man who allegedly injured Ventura County sheriff’s deputy is shot
A man who was walking down the middle of a major thoroughfare Saturday and got into a confrontation with deputies was shot by a Ventura County sheriff’s deputy, authorities said.
The man, who was described as being in his 20s, was taken to a local hospital with at least one gunshot wound, but his condition was unknown, said Sgt. Eric Buschow of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
A deputy who struggled with the man sustained facial injuries, Buschow said.
Buschow said the deputy responded to a call at 4:33 p.m. that a man was walking down Ventura Boulevard near Shell Road in an unincorporated area between Ojai and Ventura, waving his arms and yelling.
“At some point, there was a confrontation and a struggle, and the deputy was injured in the struggle,” Buschow said.
He said the man is suspected of assaulting the deputy but has not yet been arrested.
