Hollywood to host fundraiser for Jerry Brown
Gov. Jerry Brown hasn’t yet announced if he will seek an unprecedented fourth term as California governor next year, but his fundraising schedule suggests strongly that he will.
Next month, Disney’s Alan Horn, DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, Steven Spielberg and other Hollywood powerhouses will host a Bel-Air fundraiser for the governor. The event, first reported by the Hollywood Reporter, will ask guests to pay at least $5,000 per person to attend.
At the end of 2012, Brown had more than $10 million in a campaign account for his 2014 reelection. He has raised an additional $3.5 million from a donor base that includes labor unions, tobacco companies and myriad others.
When asked Tuesday in Bell Gardens about his 2014 plans, Brown said, “I’m not going to announce yet. I’m too busy working on all these problems” facing the state.
Hollywood has long been in that money mix for Brown.
Among those who have given to Brown’s campaign are director Spielberg and his wife, actress Kate Capshaw, who each maxed out to Brown, writing checks for $27,200. Katzenberg and music mogul David Geffen also contributed that same amount each.
Republicans Abel Maldonado, the former lieutenant governor, Assemblyman Tim Donnelly (R-Twin Peaks) and Neel Kashkari are among those considering a run against Brown next year.
