LOS ANGELES, May 5, 2003 – The Los Angeles Times showed continued gains in Sunday circulation, according to figures filed with the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) for the six-month period ended March 31, 2003, subject to audit. Sunday circulation rose to 1,396,045, an increase of 1,501, ranking as the highest March total since 1995. The Times attributed the increase on Sunday to growth in home delivery in the paper’s core Southern California market.

For the period ended March 31, 2003, the Los Angeles Times’ average daily circulation for Thursday to Saturday was 1,014,044, an increase of 2,312 compared with the prior year. Average daily circulation for Monday to Wednesday was 945,053, a decrease of 14, 810 from the prior year. The Times’ average daily circulation continues to be affected by single copy and home delivery price increases starting in 2001.

“Our readers have responded very favorably to the redesigned Sunday Calendar section,” said John Puerner, publisher, Los Angeles Times. “We are very pleased with our continuing momentum on Sunday and growth in Thursday to Saturday circulation.”
