Football: Running game needs improvement at Gardena Serra
It was expected that Gardena Serra might have some trouble with its running game after its first two running backs suffered off-season injuries, and the Cavaliers showed in their season opener on Saturday that they need improvement in that area. They won, 28-22, over Arizona Desert Ridge but were shut out in the second half.
Coach Scott Altenberg said it was his decision to try to establish the running game in the second half after quarterback Jalen Greene threw four first-half touchdown passes.
“We weren’t that effective,” he said.
An effective running game will be critical to Serra’s success. Next up is a tough game against host Oceanside on Friday night.
Greene completed seven of 10 passes for 176 yards.
