Football: Will Hart pass its biggest nonleague test?

Share

The scoreboard operator at College of the Canyons better be ready to work overtime tonight when Newhall Hart hosts West Hills Chaminade in a nonleague test. The teams scored 56 and 57 points, respectively, in season-opening victories last week.

Both squads possess prolific passing offenses led by accurate quarterbacks. Hart won the seven-on-seven passing tournament at Crescenta Valley over the summer and Chaminade won its division of the Valley College passing competition. This game could be decided on special teams and turnovers.

Hart is ranked #1 in the Northern Division and is #12 in the Southland by The Times. Junior Brady White threw for 442 yards and three touchdowns and Connor Wingenroth scored five times in the Indians’ victory over Corona Santiago. Hart was third in the Foothill League last fall.

Chaminade, ranked #2 in the Western Division and #8 by The Times, got 269 yards through the air via Miami-bound signal-caller Brad Kaaya and backup running back Cory Watkins had five TDs in the Eagles’ rout of Venice. They won the Mission League but lost in the section finals last season.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:15 so log back on then for scoring updates throughout the game.
