Baseball: Sherman Oaks Notre Dame could be only team playing on Saturday

Share

With rain expected on Friday and Saturday, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame’s new $3 million all-weather baseball field may not get in its first official game. Or it could be the only field capable of playing a game depending on the weather conditions.

Notre Dame is scheduled to play Arleta at 11 a.m. on the opening day of the high school baseball season. The field has lights, so the game could be delayed until conditions allow it to be played.

It will be the first test of the field’s drainage system.

“Everything we understand, as long as you have a little bit of time to dry on the top, you’re good to go,” Coach Tom Dill said.

The only dirt on the field is the pitcher’s mound, which will be covered.

So if you really want to see an opening high school baseball game on Saturday, Notre Dame could be the place to be, weather permitting.
