Football: South Gate is facing forfeits for alleged ineligible players
The Los Angeles Unified School District and City Section have asked South Gate High School to investigate the eligibility of 10 varsity and junior varsity football players, athletic administrator Trent Cornelius said Friday.
The school could end up forfeiting games over “paperwork” issues. Unless the school verifies eligibility for the 10 by today, expect them to be held out of a scheduled game against Bell.
South Gate is 4-2 and knocked off Garfield in a key Eastern League game last week.
At least one player was not on an official roster, which could lead to forfeits in the first five games.
Cornelius said it is up to the school to respond after information was presented.
